STEM Trainee at United Nations Office for Project Services (SEforALL Programme)

Location: Nigeria (Abuja)

Contract: Internship / Traineeship (6 months)
Level: Entry Level
Application Deadline: 12 June 2026
Tag: Sustainability Coordinator | ESG Researcher | Climate Finance Trainee

About the Organization:

UNOPS hosts the Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) initiative, a global platform focused on accelerating SDG7: universal access to sustainable energy.

This is a UN-backed ecosystem working at the intersection of:

  • Energy access
  • Climate finance
  • Policy implementation
  • Development programming

It is one of the most direct entry points into global energy transition systems.

About the Role:

This STEM Trainee position is a structured early-career pipeline into climate and energy systems work.

You will not just observe projects.
You will actively support implementation, data, and stakeholder coordination across clean energy initiatives.

Think of it as:
field exposure + policy training + climate finance literacy in one structured programme.

What You’ll Do:

Clean Energy Project Support

  • Assist in implementation of clean energy initiatives
  • Support field activities, site visits, and partner coordination
  • Contribute to energy access and clean cooking programmes

Data & Monitoring

  • Support data collection and analysis for project reporting
  • Assist with monitoring frameworks and impact tracking
  • Help translate field data into reporting outputs

Climate Finance Exposure

  • Learn carbon finance and clean energy financing mechanisms
  • Support understanding of investment flows into SDG7 projects
  • Assist in documentation of financing-related activities

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work with government counterparts and project partners
  • Support coordination of workshops and field engagements
  • Contribute to advocacy and awareness activities

Communications & Learning

  • Support social media and outreach content
  • Participate in professional development training sessions
  • Build foundational skills in climate and energy systems

Who They’re Looking For:

  • Currently enrolled or recently graduated in STEM field
  • Strong interest in renewable energy and climate action
  • Basic analytical and communication skills
  • Willingness to work in field-based and collaborative environments
  • No advanced experience required (this is intentionally entry-level)

Why This Role Matters:

This is not a “theoretical” sustainability role.

It is systems exposure at ground level:

  • Energy access delivery
  • Climate finance understanding
  • Policy implementation realities

You’re seeing how global climate goals actually translate into villages, grids, budgets, and institutions.

That perspective becomes extremely valuable later in ESG, consulting, or policy careers.

Strategic Insight:

This role is less about “job experience” and more about career acceleration infrastructure.

It is designed to convert early talent into:

  • development professionals
  • climate policy analysts
  • energy access specialists

In plain terms:
It teaches you how the climate system actually moves money, projects, and outcomes.
